What the $10K Client Mindset is Doing to Some Designers
Episode Summary
In this solo episode of Brand Your Brain, I’m diving into the reality of booking $10K clients and why it’s not always the best path for every designer. I share my personal experience with high ticket projects gone wrong and how it led me to reset my pricing strategy for the sake of my mental health. We’ll discuss the pressure to charge high-ticket prices, the importance of finding a balance, and why success looks different for every designer. If you’re feeling stressed about hitting that $10K mark, this episode will give you some much-needed clarity on how to price your services with confidence.
The Confession
“I really hate the “you have to book $10k+ clients” mindset. I DO think that designers need to charge their worth and that we need to elevate our industry, but it’s not always all about the money. Some of us are quite happy sitting in a middle tier if it means less anxiety and better work life balance. It’s not all about the dollar amount. And TBH really high ticket projects can be stressful AF.”
Main Discussion:
- How I started my business and initially priced my design services
- Taking a design course that helped me book high-ticket clients
- What went wrong with $10K clients or high ticket projects and what it taught me about pricing
- Why I decided to reset my prices for a healthier, more balanced business model
- The importance of pricing based on education, experience, and personal comfort
- Why the $10K benchmark shouldn’t be the standard for every designer
- The pressure of pricing and the lack of transparency online
Pricing yourself is one of the hardest things you can do as a designer (along with branding yourself lol). Tune in to hear the full episode
